Ride the Wave

Think back to my original articles (Choose. Believe. Rise.) and compare the arguments made about belief, the power of positive thought, and the momentum of the media to some of these quotes from today’s sports pages:

“Watching Rodriguez walk to the plate in the ninth inning yesterday was sort of like watching Michael Jordan in his prime walk onto the court in the final minute of a tight game: You couldn’t help but feel that something big, something remarkable, was going to happen.”

- Barbara Barker, Newsday

“A confident person. A free-and-easy person, unburdened from all the soap operas and criticism (justified and not) that have dogged him from the day he put on the Yankee pinstripes for the first time in 2004. A year ago, it was as if he faced these game-on-the-line situations with dread. The bat was gripped tighter and all the while, the fear of failure was on his mind. Now it is as if he suddenly has a Reggie-like karma about him, welcoming the moment, relishing it.”

- Bill Madden, The NY Daily News

“For the second time this season, Rodriguez hit a two-out, game-concluding homer at the Stadium. This one, a three-run laser to center, culminated a stunning Yankees rally for an 8-6 triumph over Cleveland. Here is the amazing thing: It felt inevitable.”

- Joel Sherman, The NY Post

But my favorite quote from yesterday came from the skipper himself:

“All I know is I’ve never had a player with Alex’s ability.”

- Joe Torre, The NY Yankees

  2. I’ve watched the HR clip about 20x this morning at the office, no kidding. I think its now more of a question of HOW FAR it will go rather than IF it will go. I’m loving every second of it. As Newsday’s front cover said “Watch out, Boston !”

  10. Well, he’s going to get his chance everyone… what do you think???

  11. dissapointing loss, but we’ll always have april.

  12. Contact… and that’s baseball. But there will plenty of tomorrow’s for A-Rod, the Yankees, and this rivalry. Keep believing.

  13. Arod is just Awsome!!
The way he’s going he is ganna be at 500 career homers by the first week in May.
We are ganna beat these Sox for the next 2 games!!
    Go Karstens and Wright!!!

  14. I have arod on my fantasy team. I must be a terrible manager because i am still losing. Now let’s just hope Jorge is only out a game or two.

    Rise.

  15. Tough Loss

  16. I was watching the game last night and I couldnt believe what I was watching. Does everyone realize in all of baseball, not just Yankee fans, what we are witnessing. In my 21 years of watching baseball I have never been so excited to watch these early games. I know you are not suppose to count your chicken before the hatch, but A-Rod is just plain AMAZING!!

I hate listening to Micheal Kay call the games but he said something funny last night in between his A-Rod bashing. “He is on pace for 345 RBI’s this year” Here’s to wishful thinking!!!

  17. we just have to keep it up, hes not always gonna hit a homer when we need it, but we gotta be there 24/7.
